Maurice

My favourite gay themed movie is Marice (not that I have seen many). I saw the movie at a time that I was very vulnerable emotionally and the movie touched the core of my being. The movie is based on a book by E.M. Forester. The book was published after Forester's death as it was regarded too controversial to be published while he was alive. The movie is a must see for the story and also for the beautiful 'Rupert Graves' as 'Alec Scudder'. The performances by James Wilby and Hugh Grant too are great.
I am also posting some music videos based on the movie. They are a plot spoiler so don't see them in case you are planning to watch the movie (which you must).
The movie seems childish and ill conceived to some. But I think it's the most beautiful movie ever made on the subject. Merchant Ivory productions always have been very well filmed and the movie is no exception. The stigma attached to homosexuality in the era that has passed (it's still there in most societies but being sent to prison and to loose one's standing in the society were indeed harsh measures) is very well portrayed. Well if you can please do watch the movie and leave your comments.

I was bit vulnerable when I saw "Maurice" and started to cry in the scene when he went to the hypnotist and said he like to stroke boy's hair...It was years ago and still remember it.

Nice blog, love the music!! it is fantastic!!

I found you via YarravillePaul's blog

This is a beautiful movie. One of the first gay movies that wasn't about porn and sex, but about desire, love and affection.

I still watch the dvd every year or so...

BTW, I think you should post your poem on the side, with some explanation about why it means so much to you :D

I cried all through the movie but broke down like wow when James Wilby comes to the place in the garden in the end to find Graves (Scudder) there. I waited for my Mr. Big and he never came so the outburst of emotions.Well allz well now when I look at things in retrospective.
Thanks for your comment Paul. I will surely post some other poetry by Rumi and try to explain why it means so much to me.

P.S. Bardassa (anonymous) Sufi dervish wander through the lands searching for their inspiration, medium or beloved. They only whirl when they want to attain Sama i.e. the union with the beloved i.e. God. You could read about it in my latest post. Thanks for your post. I thought I'd defend my blog's title. Hope I didn't sound rude or harsh. I didn't mean to. Please do comment in the future too. Thanks
