Shopping and Astrology
Well today was a fruitful day by my standards i.e.. My mum had some work in Ludhiana (the city where my mum was born and brought up and now where my sister is married). I am always looking forward to go to Ludhiana because I get to meet my sister and shop at all the glitzy malls in the city. Ludhiana is the industrial hub of the region and hence has attracted a lot of real estate investment and a perpetual mad traffic rush. Ludhiana has stores like Guess Jeans and The Body Shop which I really like and which aren't there in Chandigarh so it shopping time (my favourite timepass).
Meeting my sister has been an emotional thing of late. She married without my Dad's consent so we don't get to see her often also her 'love marriage' (as opposed to arranged marriage the prevalent form in India) was on the rocks in the past and I always see a sense of sadness in her eyes whenever we say goodbye.
The real reason for the trip was that my mum wanted to see an astrologer with regards to some questions about her sister who called her to consult the astrologer about some new business prospect. I have never believed in astrology and to me it more entertainment than sense. Anyways after my mum had asked the astrologer about my aunt and her children she wanted me to consult the astrologer too and I wasn't interested. As always just to avoid an argument I decided to give in. As it turns out I have an excellent state of the stars in my horoscope. I am supposed to have enough money in the present and would never have to worry about money in the future too (phew that's a relief because the way things are in the present I am worried). After predicting some really nice things about my future the astrologer asked me to wear a yellow sapphire in a ring on one of my finger, eat a part of my meal in the kitchen!! and asked me to touch my mum's feet every day (touching feet is a sign of respect in India). Except for the ring not a bad deal keeping in mind the weird things she asked my sister and my cousins to do like feed lentils to birds, donate bananas and jaggery and gram and stuff.
Then I was on to shopping and bought some stuff and had to leave back some stuff because I ran out of money. But I guess now that the astrologer believes that I would never need to worry about money I could blow some money on things I wanted like the Vanilla Spice Body Wash and some uber cool slim fit pants.
