Maurice

My favourite gay themed movie is Marice (not that I have seen many). I saw the movie at a time that I was very vulnerable emotionally and the movie touched the core of my being. The movie is based on a book by E.M. Forester. The book was published after Forester's death as it was regarded too controversial to be published while he was alive. The movie is a must see for the story and also for the beautiful 'Rupert Graves' as 'Alec Scudder'. The performances by James Wilby and Hugh Grant too are great.
I am also posting some music videos based on the movie. They are a plot spoiler so don't see them in case you are planning to watch the movie (which you must).
The movie seems childish and ill conceived to some. But I think it's the most beautiful movie ever made on the subject. Merchant Ivory productions always have been very well filmed and the movie is no exception. The stigma attached to homosexuality in the era that has passed (it's still there in most societies but being sent to prison and to loose one's standing in the society were indeed harsh measures) is very well portrayed. Well if you can please do watch the movie and leave your comments.
