Sumi Jo - The Voice of Heaven
Brenton send me an email today as asked me to listen to a piece by Vivaldi by Cecilia Bartoli on Youtube. I don't have much knowledge to appreciate the western classical and opera traditions but I still gave it a listen. A very powerful and controlled performance in what came to my mind when I heard the piece.
While I was browsing through her videos I stumbled upon Sumi Jo. I have never seen an Oriental Opera singer so it intrigued me and I decided to give her a listen. I think she is from South Korea, is said to have 'The Voice of Heaven' and I would have to agree with that. A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. Now with my limited knowledge of the intricacies on the genre I may be wrong but listening to her sing transported me to a alter universe and I love her voice for that.

Sumi Jo---sublime!!! I am in ecstasy !!! Mr Hyde!!!
I though you'd like her. I too found her voice pretty amazing.
Sumi Jo is one of the most fabulous [classical] singers on the planet at present. She has been around now since the early 1980s and I have seen her twice live in the last five years. There is no lessening of the voice quality after more than twenty years. She is also very camp in an unknowing way. She wears only slinky sequined gowns and often glittering make up when she gives concerts. I saw her sing the soprano part in Mahler's 4th Symphony which is a very serious concert work and which does not feature the voice until the last movement - 40 minutes into the music. Most singers sit quietly on the stage until they come in. Sumi appeared just before the movement commenced, wearing a full length white sequined gown, matching hat and gloves and a white fur muff! She was gorgeous!
Ahh it's so nice to hear from you Mike after such a long time. Where had you been lost!!!
You always have the most interesting incidents to relate. Thanks for dropping in.
I got real busy, nothing to show for it of course.
