The lost memories - Alzheimer
I saw 'Iris' the movie about novelist Iris Murdoch and her battle with Alzheimer today and was moved. The only other movie about Alzheimer that I have seen is 'The Notebook'. It is one of the movies that make you think and I started to wonder how would it feel if one day after spending a lifetime with a person you felt that thee person no longer recognized or understood you. That all you were to them was a blur.
Would it feel like a rejection and would love be strong enough to keep you going in those moments when all that loved in the person would be dying a slow death? If someone leaves you and forgets your existence because they find someone else it is still easier because then you can start to hate them and the hate and anger may provide some solace but how can you be angry at someone who are themselves slowly moving towards the darkness. I am fortunate enough to never have had anyone in my family with Alzheimer so I guess I'll never know.
Both the movies come highly recommended and I love the character of John Bailey in Iris. What a sweetheart!! The next movie on the Agenda now is 'Vertigo' by Alfred Hitchcock.

'Iris' is an extaordinary movie, but wait until you see, 'Notes On a Scandal' with not only Judy Dench , but Cate Blanchett also. I watched this film today and it was just amazing!!! Two of the planet's greatest actresses in a film about 'obsession' , one of my favourite subjects !!!! Mr Hyde.
I have heard about 'Notes on a Scandal' but haven't seen it in the stores here. Will give it a go once it's available.
As of now I am watching some classics. Would be seeing 'Vertigo' tonight followed by 'Doctor Zhivago' and then 'Anna Karenina'.
There is another film "Away From Her" just starting to get released around the world now. That deals with Alzheimer's disease as well. I have not seen it but Julie Christie is in it - the most hauntingly beautiful face in British cinema of the 1960s and 1970s.
Hmm.. that's another one to the list then. Thanks for the thumbs up Mike.
